South Texas Umpire Clinic - History

    •

      How it all started...

It all started on a Little League field hidden along an old dirt road in Helotes, Texas. Dan, the Director of Umpires, was working hard to ensure that the kids got high quality officiating. With his friend John, they were always willing to take a hard-working kid and develop him into a capable official. Frank was one of those umpires.

In '96, after his first year of officiating, Frank, Dan, and John attended the Golden State Umpire Camp. Excited about the knowledge they gained, they implemented a new training program for Little League umpires. The short clinics they conducted were a hit and dramatically improved the quality of the league's officials. Frank went pro two years later, but the clinics continued to improve each season.

Driven by a love for the game of baseball, they set out to create a clinic that would develop the skills of newer umpires and sharpen those of experienced officials. Many of Frank's colleagues in professional baseball were eager to be apart of a positive clinic that was about improving the game. Frank officially established the South Texas Umpire Clinic as a non-profit organization with the mission of improving baseball at all levels.

For 14 years, the South Texas Umpire Clinic has trained hundreds of umpires that returned to their leagues to share their knowledge. This school is a success because of the dedicated umpires that come to our clinic and, like us, love the game of baseball and quietly strive for perfection.

With our staff working hard to improve our program, 2011 promises to be our best year yet!
